Evaluating violence prevention programs in health care

November 2014: Partnership co-lead Chris McLeod and co-investigators have received funding from WorkSafeBC to evaluate the effectiveness of violence prevention programs in health care.

Graduate student opportunities

November 2014: Partnership co-lead Chris McLeod invites applications from students interested in evaluation of occupational health and safety policies and interventions and comparative analysis of compensation systems.

Canadian Association for Research on Work and Health Conference

October 2014: Partnership researchers gave five presentations and a poster on a variety of topics at CARWH in Saskatoon. Partnership students also gave a series of presentations.

Seminar in Toronto: Evaluating OHS prevention programs

September 2014: Partnership co-lead Chris McLeod will speak at the University of Toronto on Oct. 2. His talk is entitled “Evaluating OHS prevention programs: An example of a voluntary audit-based prevention program in British Columbia”.

Seminar in Groningen, NL on using research to inform policy and practice

September 2014: Partnership co-lead Chris McLeod will speak at the University of Groningen in the Netherlands on Sept. 24. His talk is entitled “Using research to inform policy and practice: an example of an university-disability insurer partnership from British Columbia, Canada”.

CIHR operating grant success

July 2014: We are excited that Partnership co-lead Chris McLeod’s CIHR Operating Grant on comparative effectiveness of disability management and return to work policies and practices across jurisdictions in Canada, New Zealand and Australia has been funded.

2014 Walk for Truth – Asbestos Kills

May 2014: The Asbestos-related Research, Education and Advocacy Fund (AREA Fund) is hosting the Walk for Truth on July 12 in Powell River, BC, to raise awareness of asbestos-related disease. Registration is now open.

Trainee opportunities in gender and health

May 2013: Partnership PhD student Andrea Jones is attending the first OBEL Gender, Work & Health Summer School at McGill. Those interested in similar opportunities should explore the IGH Community Support Program.

April 28: Day of Mourning

April 2014: WorkSafeBC, the BC Federation of Labour, and the Business Council of BC co-host a public ceremony on Monday, April 28 to honour those who have lost their lives to work-related incidents or occupational diseases.
